Why Are Trees in Europe Painted White?



  • If you spend much time in Europe you will likely discover that trees all over the continent are painted white around their bases. We have been seeing this for quite some time and had our guesses but finally asked some farmers in Romania why they painted all of the trees white. The answer was, not surprisingly, that it is an insect repellent or even insecticide that stops ants and caterpillars from climbing into and destroying the trees.
